More and more clothing brands are being bought out by larger corporations for millions and billions of dollars. Many of these companies are no longer ran by the families and individuals who founded them. We curated a small list of well known brands In the surf and snow industry and did research to display who owns them now.

We still love love some of these brands because they’ve upheld their quality. However, it is important to us to support those that stayed true to why they initially created the brand. Many of these companies were sold for millions and billions, For example, SUPREME recently sold for $2.1 billion dollars.

When you purchase and wear clothing, you’re advertising for that company and putting your money in a brand’s core belief. Some of these brands that were bought out have stopped sponsoring many athletes so they can use those funds to expand to other sports and sell more product. Products that were once only sold in specialty stores are now mass produced and being sold in big box stores. Where should a business draw the line of being true to their mission and pursuing growth and profit? Let your money and purchases decide.
